Garment Measurements

Garment measurements refer to the actual dimensions of the finished piece. These are often the most useful measurements when comparing a new item to clothing you already own.

Chest / Pit to Pit
Measured flat across the garment from underarm to underarm.
Body Length
Measured from the highest shoulder point to the hem.
Shoulder
Measured across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.
Sleeve
Measured according to the garment construction.
Waist
Measured across the waistband.
Hip
Measured across the widest part of the garment.
Inseam
Measured from crotch seam to hem.
Rise
Measured from crotch seam to top of waistband.

How to Measure Your Body

Chest / Bust
Measure around the fullest part while keeping the tape level.
Waist
Measure around the natural waistline.
Hip
Measure around the fullest part of the hips.
Sleeve
Measure from the appropriate shoulder point down the arm according to garment type.
Inseam
Measure from the crotch to the desired hem length.
